Austria Vienna outclassed FC Pinzgau 6:0

FC Pinzgau failed to spring a surprise in the first round of the ÖFB Cup. The team from Saalfelden were beaten 6-0 in front of 1000 spectators. This means that all Salzburg amateur teams have already been eliminated.

Hopes of a sensation were high! Why shouldn't FC Pinzgau pull off a surprise against Austria Vienna? But the Saalfelden team was miles away from a home win against the "Veilchen" for 90 minutes. The score was 0:4 after just 45 minutes in the Saalfelden Arena, which was packed with 1,000 spectators. Two dream goals from Dominik Fitz and Andreas Gruber opened the scoring. 

The favorites with Matteo Meisl from Kuchl shifted down three or four gears after the break. However, the Pinzgau side were still unable to create any compelling opportunities. In the end, the vastly inferior hosts were beaten 0:6. Much to the delight of the almost 250 Austria fans who had made the long journey from the capital to Pinzgau. 

While the Viennese have to make up for a 2-1 defeat against Ilves Tampere in the Conference League qualifiers on Wednesday (20:30), the Saalfelden team will kick off the 2024/25 Western League season at home against TSV St. Johann on Friday (19). 

The defeat means that all Salzburg amateur clubs have been eliminated in the first round of the ÖFB Cup. This has not happened since 2019.
