Car burns out completely on the Tauern highway

A fire broke out in the engine compartment of two cars on Thursday. The A10 in Pongau (Salzburg) had to be partially closed for a short time. Four volunteer fire departments were deployed.

On Thursday afternoon, the Pfarrwerfen and Werfen fire departments were called out to the Tauernautobahn in the direction of Villach with the message "Fire on the highway - car on fire".

Occupants uninjured
A fire had broken out in the engine compartment of a car fully occupied by a family of migrant workers. Fortunately, the occupants were able to escape from the vehicle unharmed and alert the emergency services.

The fire was quickly extinguished. The car was a total loss. The Eben and Altenmarkt fire departments were also involved in a vehicle fire on the A10 just one hour before the Pfarrwerfen and Werfen fire departments were alerted.

At the end of the oncoming traffic area between the Hüttau and Eben construction site, a woman from Pongau noticed smoke in the engine compartment. The 64-year-old immediately drove onto the emergency lane. The vehicle was on fire within seconds. The woman was uninjured in the incident. The A10 tunnel chain had to be closed to all vehicle traffic for the duration of the clearing work.
