As with "Roméo et Juliette", the Salzburg Festival is hoping for a very special love performance this year, in a "new guise", if you like ...

The then German Minister of Defense Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg attended the premiere of the Charles Gounod opera in 2010 with his wife Stephanie.

Over the years, they were welcome guests at the Salzburg Festival and were dubbed the "dream couple" after a brilliant performance in 2022. Then, just a few months later, came the shock: the two had separated after more than 20 years of marriage.
