No happy ending! Nadal loses Bastad final

No happy ending for Rafael Nadal in his first final on the ATP Tour for more than two years! The 38-year-old Spaniard lost the final of the ATP250 tournament in Båstad on Sunday to Portugal's Nuno Borges 3:6, 2:6. Nadal missed out on his 93rd tournament win on the ATP Tour and has not won a tournament since the French Open 2022. Borges, on the other hand, celebrated his maiden title. Alexander Zverev, meanwhile, missed out on victory at his home tournament in Hamburg.

For the former world number one Nadal, the clay court tournament in Sweden served as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games in Paris, which begin on Friday, as did Zverev at the Rothenbaum in Hamburg.

Zverev lost to Fils 3:6, 6:3, 6:7
Zverev enters the Olympic singles tournament as the defending champion - but not as the newly crowned tournament winner. He failed to successfully defend his title at his home event. In a marathon final lasting 3:31 hours, the top seeded German lost 3:6, 6:3, 6:7(1) to the fifth seeded Frenchman Arthur Fils.

Matteo Berrettini won the tournament in Gstaad for the second time. The 28-year-old Italian made short work of French qualifier Quentin Halys in the final, winning 6:3, 6:1 in 59 minutes. Berrettini had already won the Swiss Open in 2018.
