Truck goes up in flames in the Katschberg tunnel

Fire alarm in the Katschberg tunnel! A truck burst into flames. The driver fought against the fire. 

Nerve-wracking scenes took place in the Katschberg tunnel in the direction of Villach on Friday night. The tractor unit of a Turkish truck driver suddenly caught fire. The man immediately stopped the truck in the tunnel and tried to bring the fire under control. Together with the employees of the highway operators, he succeeded.

The truck was towed out of the tunnel by the local fire departments - St. Michael (Lungau) and Rennweg. The police believe that a clogged diesel particulate filter may have caused the fire. The Katschberg tunnel had to be closed in both directions due to the incident. Fortunately, nobody was injured. There was hardly any damage to the truck.
