Microsoft and Google to circumvent US chip embargo

AI chips from Nvidia are subject to a US embargo in China, but are still to be used by Chinese companies via servers outside the People's Republic.(Bild: AFP)

Despite a US embargo, Microsoft and Google are apparently allowing Chinese companies access to state-of-the-art special processors for artificial intelligence. The software group and the Alphabet subsidiary are to rent servers located outside the People's Republic to Chinese customers.

This was reported by the news portal "The Information" on Wednesday, citing insiders. These computers are equipped with chips from the global market leader Nvidia.

In order to slow down the technological and military rise of the People's Republic, the USA has increasingly restricted the export of high technology to China in recent months.

This also affects the powerful AI processors from global market leader Nvidia.
