Thiago, who came up through the ranks at FC Barcelona, spent the longest and most successful period of his professional career in Germany.

He played 235 competitive matches for FC Bayern, which he joined in July 2013, scoring 31 goals and providing 37 assists. He left Germany at the peak of his time in Munich after winning the Champions League, championship and DFB Cup in the 2020 season.

Thiago, who opted for Spain, where he lived from the age of 5, instead of Brazil - his father's homeland - or Italy - the country of his birth - was less successful at national team level than at club level.
