Guests at “Almrausch” party plunge into the depths

The weekly party in the "Almstadl" at 1650 meters above sea level in Wagrain ended dramatically for five guests on Saturday. The police have started an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Five Germans aged between 22 and 36 from the Baden-Württemberg area were at the so-called "Almrausch Party" on Saturday with around 200 other party guests. The event takes place every week in the "Almstadl" in Wagrain at an altitude of 1650 meters above sea level.

Suddenly a fence beam broke away
They were leaning against a wooden fence in an open area near a swimming pond below the hut. Suddenly, the top fence beam broke, presumably due to the weight of the Germans. All five fell down the steep slope below and came to rest after about ten meters.

A 33-year-old was rescued from the impassable terrain by the rescue helicopter using a rope rescue and flown to Schwarzach Hospital. A 28-year-old and a 29-year-old were able to get back to the hut on their own. They were taken to Schwarzach Hospital by ambulance. An investigation has been launched to find out exactly how the accident happened.
