19-year-old crashes 600 hp car into group of people

In Hamburg city center on Tuesday, a 19-year-old driver crashed his 600 hp Mercedes into a group of people in front of a bank branch. The horror result: four people were injured, one of whom had to be resuscitated and is in mortal danger.

Another pedestrian as well as the 19-year-old and his passenger - apparently the young man's father - were injured in the accident. They were also taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

19-year-old was driving too fast
According to a fire department spokesperson, around 25 first responders were at the scene of the accident near the bank branch on Jungfernstieg. According to eyewitness reports, the car had been driving comparatively fast.

Collision with VW van
According to the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper, the 19-year-old driver initially collided with the outside seating of a restaurant and a VW van parked there at high speed at around 10.15 a.m. in his high-powered Mercedes.

The front of the Mercedes then smashed through the entrance doors of the bank branch and came to a halt there. According to the police, the car involved in the accident was a Mercedes AMG GLE 63S Coupé with more than 600 hp.

"The force of the impact with the parked van caused it to move forward and hit a pedestrian, who was critically injured as a result," Hamburg police said on Tuesday afternoon.
