Karlau prison: Prisoner found dead in cell

A young inmate was found dead in his cell in Graz-Karlau prison on Monday morning. Two fellow inmates had raised the alarm. The circumstances of his death are still completely unclear. An autopsy has been ordered and the police are investigating. 

The victim had been accommodated with two other prisoners in a cell in the infirmary of the Karlau prison. However, this was not because the 25-year-old was ill. He was working there as a houseworker. His two cellmates raised the alarm over the intercom in the early hours of the morning after the inmate, who was lying in bed, gave no more signs of life.

No signs of violence
Officers from the prison immediately opened the cell, but unfortunately were unable to do anything for the young inmate. It is certain that no signs of violence were visible, at least from the outside. The public prosecutor's office in Graz ordered a post-mortem examination to clarify the circumstances of death.
