Tyrol’s tractor drivers are being shaken awake again

A campaign by the province of Tyrol is being extended. It is aimed at the drivers of large tractors. 30 signs, information brochures, a website and social media are intended to raise awareness.

The province's campaign, which was first launched in 2021 under the motto "Big tires. Big responsibility". The aim is to wake up the drivers of large tractors in the local area. When they are on the road with their "Brummis", this sometimes leads to uncertainty among pedestrians and cyclists, especially on narrow roads.

As State Premier Josef Geisler (ÖVP) and Transport Minister René Zumtobel (SPÖ) emphasize, "with this campaign we want to sensitize road users to be more considerate of each other".

Statistically speaking, large tractors are only rarely involved in accidents, but this does not change the subjective discomfort of the encounter.

Brochures, website and signs provide information
The primary aim is to raise awareness among drivers. Although the two politicians emphasize that large tractors are only rarely involved in accidents, "this does not change the subjective discomfort of other road users in an encounter". The campaign includes information brochures, a website with behavioral tips for drivers, posts on social media and 30 signs.

Tractor tires as big as a schoolchild
 The signs are displayed by the road maintenance departments at the entrances to towns. They show a schoolchild next to a tractor tire to emphasize the size ratio. The behavioral tips on the website range from driving at an appropriate speed and keeping your distance to avoiding forming a convoy.

Many of the tips should be heeded not only by tractor drivers, but also by all other drivers.
