Weapons ban zones in Innsbruck remain in place

The police continue to rely on the weapons ban zones in Innsbruck: the temporary ordinances for the Bogenmeile and around the main railway station would have expired at the end of May - now the executive has announced that they will be extended for a further three months.

On December 1, 2018, the infamous Bogenmeile became the first weapons ban zone in Austria, followed in March 2019 by the second in the area around the main train station (forecourt - Südtiroler Platz with the side streets Salurner Straße to Adamgasse and Brixner Straße to Meinhardstraße as well as Brunecker-Straße to Museumstraße).

Seven knives and two knuckledusters seized
On June 1, they will be extended once again for another three months. "The weapons ban zones give the police the opportunity to take more effective action against potential perpetrators of violence," says the police. Seven knives and two knuckledusters were seized in the two weapons prohibition zones during twelve special operations this year from February to April.

Anyone who violates the ban must expect hefty penalties.
