Plane in severe turbulence: Twelve injured

A passenger plane has encountered severe turbulence in Turkish airspace. Twelve people on board the Qatar Airways aircraft were injured. Just a few days ago, one person died on a flight due to severe turbulence.

Six of those affected were crew members, the others were passengers, Dublin Airport announced on Sunday. The plane was en route from Doha to the Irish capital.

Eight people taken to hospital
The plane landed there on time at around 1 p.m. (local time), according to Dublin Airport. The plane was met by emergency services, the airport police and fire department. Eight of the injured were taken to hospital after landing. The return flight of the Qatar aircraft to Doha will be delayed, it was reported.

According to Qatar Airways, the injuries were minor. The incident is now being investigated internally, the airline added.

Panic and chaos in the cabin
Passengers reported a sudden descent of the aircraft, which is said to have lasted for around 20 seconds. Meals were being served at this time. The crew members literally took off into the air, one man told the Irish broadcaster RTÉ. Others reported panic and chaos in the cabin. Food was flying everywhere.
