Daughter Josephine steals the show from King Frederik

Denmark's new King Frederik X celebrated his first birthday since his accession to the throne on Sunday. Smiling and waving, the 56-year-old monarch appeared with his family on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen at midday. 

He was accompanied by his mother Queen Margrete (84), his wife Queen Mary (52) and his four children, Crown Prince Christian (18), Princess Isabella (17) and the twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent (both 13).

The dresses of the two queens were color-coordinated - both appeared in bright pink outfits.

Secret star
Teenage Princess Josephine seemed to feel particularly at home on the balcony.

The schoolgirl, who was recently seen dancing on the royal family's TikTok channel, waved and laughed at the cameras in a white and light blue patterned dress with particular confidence and warmth, turning out to be the secret star of the party.

Her big brother, Crown Prince Christian, obviously preferred to stay in the background.

According to a report by the Danish news agency Ritzau, the royal family wanted to spend the rest of the day in private.

Frederik succeeded his mother to the throne at the beginning of the year after she surprisingly announced her abdication in her New Year's speech.
