Hazardous goods incident: Leaking canisters on a wagon

Hazardous goods alarm at the train station in Wörgl in the Tyrolean lowlands late on Wednesday evening: hydrogen peroxide was leaking from several canisters that were being transported together with batteries on a freight wagon. The fire department arrived with protective equipment. No one was injured.

Shortly before 10.30 p.m., the emergency coordinator at the ÖBB operations control center reported a hazardous goods accident at Wörgl station on track 16 to the Tyrol control center. The fire department arrived with dozens of firefighters.

Hydrogen peroxide leaked out
On site, it turned out that the affected freight wagon was loaded with hydrogen peroxide and over 10 tons of lithium batteries. "Hydrogen peroxide was leaking from some of the five-liter canisters," said the police.

Train service continued as normal
The wagon was therefore moved to a siding, where the firefighters, who were equipped with heavy breathing protection and appropriate protective clothing, secured the canisters and took them away.

Train services, in particular passenger services at Wörgl station, were not affected at any time. "An evacuation or large-scale cordoning off of the danger zone was not necessary," said the investigators. Fortunately, no one was injured either.
