Car crashes into cemetery wall: pensioner drives on

Strange accident on Tuesday evening in the Tyrolean Außerfern: a 77-year-old woman lost control of her car in Vils, drove over a steep embankment and crashed into the wall of the local cemetery. Instead of stopping, the injured woman drove on. Only after two kilometers was the end of the line.

The curious and sometimes very dangerous scenes took place shortly after 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The 77-year-old local woman was driving her car from the cemetery parking lot towards the center of Vils.

Drifted over the edge of the road
"For unknown reasons, the driver then drove over the right-hand edge of the road on the uphill road. As a result, she drove over the steep embankment and down the adjacent meadow, crossed the gravel parking lot of the cemetery and ultimately crashed into the cemetery wall," said the police.

The woman made a large loop in the meadow. She then drove on for around 1.7 kilometers.

The 77-year-old then steered her car back into a meadow. There she then made a large loop and drove on, the investigators describe.

Rescue to the hospital
The woman, who had suffered injuries as a result of the collision, only came to a halt after around 1.7 kilometers. She was taken to the district hospital in Reutte by ambulance.
