Lost: mountaineer falls while making a phone call

A female mountaineer got lost on her descent into the valley on Tuesday in the Tyrolean Außerfern. When the 33-year-old German woman phoned a local acquaintance (24) for help, she fell. The injured woman was able to fight her way back to a path, where she was found completely exhausted by the 24-year-old, who had set off in search of her.

The mishap happened at around 12.30 p.m. on the descent from the 2340-metre-high "Daniel". The 33-year-old German woman lost her way due to several snowfields - she completely lost her bearings.

"To draw attention to her plight, the woman contacted an acquaintance who knew the area, a 24-year-old Austrian, who then called the emergency services," reported the police.

During the phone call, the 33-year-old slipped on a snow field and fell around eight to ten meters.

And then it happened: "During the phone call, the 33-year-old suddenly slipped on a snowfield and fell about eight to ten meters," the investigators continued. She suffered injuries to her right forearm.

The climber finally managed to find her way back to the hiking trail herself. "She was finally found completely exhausted at 3.10 p.m. below the Bichlbacher Alm by her friend, who had gone looking for her on his own."

The Ehrwald, Lermoos and Bichlbach mountain rescue teams and the Alpine police were also deployed. The use of a helicopter was not possible due to the foggy weather conditions.
