Reim and Schöberl miss out on the Olympics by eleven seconds

The lightweight double sculls pairing of Lukas Reim and Julian Schöberl missed out on the Olympic Games in Paris. The rowing duo was eleven seconds behind the required second place in the final.

Hopes were high, but so was the disappointment at the end. For the rowing duo Lukas Reim/Julian Schöberl, it was not enough for an Olympic ticket at the Olympic qualification regatta in Lucerne (Sz).

The Austrian lightweight double sculls only achieved sixth and last place in the final on Tuesday, eleven seconds behind the victorious French. The second Olympic ticket was secured by the Greek boat just behind them. With "one laughing and one crying eye", Reim was already in the car heading home shortly after the race. "It's sobering that we didn't make it, because it was our big goal. But the competition was really strong, you have to acknowledge that," said the 26-year-old.

National coach Robert Sens sympathized with the athletes: "It wasn't enough at the end. It's a shame of course, they are two really great athletes."
