Accelerator and brake mixed up, several cars hit

A fatal mix-up ended fatally for a female driver and her passenger in Innsbruck on Friday. The property damage is also considerable.

At around 12.30 p.m. on Thursday, a 19-year-old Turkish woman was driving her car eastbound on Grabenweg in Innsbruck. A 19-year-old Serbian woman was also a passenger in the car.

The wrong pedal when braking
At the junction with Josef-Mayr-Nusser-Weg, the driver turned right heading south and wanted to slow down her vehicle. In doing so, she mistook the brake pedal for the accelerator pedal and crashed her vehicle into several cars parked there.

"Car billiards" with seven vehicles
As a result, a total of six cars were damaged, some of them considerably. The driver and her passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to Innsbruck Hospital by the ambulance service.
