Stopped only briefly
Drunk driver simply drove on after crashing his bike
After what must have been a merry holiday program, a 72-year-old man from the district of Klagenfurt Land got behind the wheel near Maria Rain on Thursday afternoon.
At the same time, a 53-year-old man from Völkermarkt was riding his bicycle in the area between Maria Rain and St. Ulrich. "When the 72-year-old wanted to turn into a local road at around 4.45 pm, he touched the cyclist. The cyclist fell and suffered injuries of indeterminate severity," the police report. "According to witnesses, he stopped briefly but continued on his way immediately afterwards without providing first aid."
However, the search for the 72-year-old hit-and-run driver did not take long. "Using the license plate number of the car, police officers were able to track down the 72-year-old and find him at his home address," said the police. The breathalyzer test revealed severe alcoholization, so the driver's license was immediately taken away. For the cyclist, the holiday ended with a trip to Klagenfurt Hospital.
