Not offside
TV pictures prove: Bayern goal should have counted
There was a huge uproar over referee Szymon Marciniak's decision to blow the whistle on Munich's late chance to equalize in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. The referee claimed to have seen Mazraoui offside, but TV pictures show that the goal should have counted.
In the 103rd minute of the game, Bayern had another chance to save themselves from extra time with a goal to make it 2-2: Noussair Mazraoui had got to the ball in the opposition penalty area, which ended up with Mathijs de Ligt via a circuitous route, who was actually able to put it in the Madrilenian goal. However, the goal did not count as referee Szymon Marciniak had already blown his whistle.
The hasty whistle was also the number one topic of conversation on "beIN Sports", with the experts taking a closer look at the action in the studio.
And indeed: Mazraoui, who played the ball to De Ligt in a roundabout way, was still behind the defensive line, so Marciniak should have allowed the goal.
Eberl furious
There was an apology to De Ligt for the referee not allowing the action to be completed, but that won't get Munich back to Wembley. Or as sporting director Max Eberl elegantly put it in a nutshell: "We can't buy shit from this."
