France: Extreme rise in anti-Semitic acts

France is currently struggling with an increasing number of anti-Semitic incidents. According to the government, there are even 300 percent more such acts than in the same period last year.

In the first quarter of 2024, there was a 300 percent increase in anti-Semitism compared to the same period last year, Paris was told on Monday. Head of government Gabriel Attal pointed out that Jewish French people make up around one percent of the population - but more than 60 percent of acts directed against religions are anti-Semitic.

According to Attal, 366 anti-Semitic acts were registered in the first quarter of the current year. In view of this development, no act should go unpunished, he warned.
