Ski legend Alberto Tomba in deep mourning
Alberto Tomba is one of the best and most successful skiers of all time, but now the Italian is in deep mourning: his father Franco died at the weekend at the age of 84.
"Franco is the one who made sure that Alberto became the champion that everyone knows, but he did it in an elegant and serious way," Flavio Roda, President of the Italian Winter Sports Federation FISI, was quoted as saying in a press release. The family is very close in these "days of pain".
Legend in Italy
Alberto Tomba celebrated 50 World Cup victories in his illustrious career and is a true sporting legend in Italy. With his eccentric and dazzling manner, the 57-year-old also inspired people who otherwise have nothing to do with skiing.
Father Franco was not only father, but also Alberto Tomba's most important reference person.
