MI300 against Nvidia
New AI processor gives chip company AMD a tailwind
Robust demand for special processors for artificial intelligence (AI) has given AMD an increase in sales. "AMD had a strong start to the year and achieved record sales in the data center segment," said Jean Hu, CFO of the chip manufacturer. "We also achieved a solid increase in gross margin." AMD is well on track to continue to grow profitably and take advantage of the opportunities presented by AI.
According to the information provided, revenue increased by around two percent to 5.473 billion dollars. This figure was in line with market expectations and in the middle of the range targeted by the US company.
AMD has high hopes for its "MI300" AI chip for data centers, with which it hopes to take market share away from global market leader Nvidia. A few weeks ago, AMD also presented a number of AI chips that are to be installed in PCs and laptops. However, Nvidia also has such products in its portfolio.
