Two seriously injured
Driver swerved to avoid deer and hit several trees
A serious accident on Monday evening on the L 646 in Deutschlandsberg: after a deer jumped onto the road, the driver left the road and crashed into several trees. His car overturned and finally ended up on its roof. The 22-year-old driver and his passenger were seriously injured.
The accident happened at around 10 p.m. coming from Weinebene in the direction of Osterwitz. "The deer jumping onto the road caused the driver to veer his vehicle to the left and leave the road", the police said on Tuesday. The car hit several trees and came to a standstill on its roof a few meters below the road.
Driver and passenger in hospital
The occupants (both from the Deutschlandsberg district) received first aid from the Red Cross at the scene of the accident. The 22-year-old driver was then taken to Deutschlandsberg Regional Hospital, while his 21-year-old co-driver was flown to Graz Regional Hospital by the Christophorus 17 rescue helicopter.
The Osterwitz, Trahütten and Wildbach volunteer fire departments carried out road safety measures and recovered the vehicle.
