OMV wants to get rid of contracts via arbitration courts

Behind the scenes, OMV is fighting hard to get out of its gas supply contracts with Gazprom, which run until 2040.

To this end, the domestic energy supplier has started arbitration proceedings in Paris and Stockholm. The Russians, for their part, are suing to have these arbitration proceedings banned - at the Commercial Court in St. Petersburg, which apparently agrees with Gazprom. A further hearing is scheduled for May 17.

Another point of contention is the expropriation of a Siberian gas field share of OMV by Moscow. It was transferred to Gazprom by decree of President Vladimir Putin.
