77th Cannes Film Festival
Omar Sy and Lily Gladstone on the Cannes jury
Around two weeks before the start of the Cannes Film Festival, the organizers announced the composition of the nine-member jury chaired by Greta Gerwig on Monday.
In addition to Gerwig, there are four men and four women. Among them are French actor Omar Sy, who made his breakthrough in 2011 with the comedy "Pretty Best Friends", and US actress Lily Gladstone, most recently seen in Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon".
At 37, Gladstone is the youngest member of the jury.
Bond star
Gerwig's team also includes French actress Eva Green, who starred alongside Daniel Craig in the James Bond film "Casino Royale", and Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda.
Also taking part are Italian actor Pierfrancesco Favino, Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, Lebanese director Nadine Labaki and Turkish screenwriter Ebru Ceylan.
Palme d'Honneur for George Lucas
The 77th Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 14 to 25 on the French Mediterranean coast. 'Star Wars' creator George Lucas is to receive the Palme d'Honneur for his life's work.
The jury has the task of choosing the winner of the Palme d'Or, the festival's most important prize, from a selection of 22 films. Among the films in competition is Francis Ford Coppola's long-awaited monumental film "Megalopolis".
Austrian filmmaking is represented this year by Mo Harawe, a Viennese by choice. The Somali-born director has made it into the "Un certain regard" section with his feature film debut "The Village Next to Paradise".
