Medal missed
Gymnastics: Höck fourth at the European Championships on rings!
For gymnast Vinzenz Höck it was just not enough to win a medal in the rings final at the Rimini European Championships!
The gymnast from Graz, who wanted to redeem himself in Italy for missing out on the Olympic Games, finished ex aequo fourth on Friday (14.800). As third in qualifying, Höck had thought he had a chance of winning a medal. The European title went to 2016 Olympic champion Eleftherios Petrounias from Greece (15.000 points) for the seventh time. A slight wobble on the last handstand cost Höck the medal, according to Turnsport Austria "maybe even the victory".
"I haven't often received a score as high as today!"
"I knew it would be difficult, but that was extreme today," said Höck. He was 0.1 points short of a medal. "I haven't often received a score as high as today. With the exception of two Chinese gymnasts, the world's best ring gymnasts are currently all from Europe."
Nevertheless, the number 4 in Europe will not be represented at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
