Upper Austria’s schools are 749 teachers short

Exactly 6821 teaching positions need to be filled nationwide for the coming school year - almost as many as last year (6846). In a state comparison, Upper Austria is in fourth place behind Vienna, Lower Austria and Tyrol with 749 advertised positions.

The greatest shortage of teachers is in compulsory schools in the Innviertel region, where 128 positions are advertised. This is followed by the general secondary schools and vocational middle and secondary schools in Linz, where there is a shortage of 117 teachers. In total, there is a shortage of 178 teachers in the Innviertel, closely followed by Linz with 175 vacancies.

Education director optimistic
The Wels-Grieskirchen-Eferding education region is looking for 123 teachers, while 101 teachers are needed in the Mühlviertel. In the Gmunden-Vöcklabruck lake region, there are 93 vacant teaching positions, while in Steyr-Kirchdorf there are 47 teachers' desks waiting for a new user.

Director of Education Alfred Klampfer is optimistic that the vacancies can be filled: "We are looking forward to receiving numerous applications and new, committed teachers who will enrich our schools in the coming school year."
