Survey on the job mile
“It was difficult to find a suitable job”
Generational conflicts, psychological problems, more sick leave: the job market is in crisis. Young people in particular are finding it difficult to gain a foothold. The "Krone" spoke to some of them at the Job Mile.
After the job fair in the town hall this week, the next relevant event took place on Friday with the Caritas Job Mile. These offers are also needed if you take a look at the unemployment figures, which have risen sharply again recently.
People at the beginning or end of their working lives in particular are having problems finding their feet. Why is that?
"We often get young people who are around 20 years old and who haven't done anything since leaving school," explains a waff advisor. After the long break, they have problems getting back into learning or getting a regular job. In addition, many employers are still of the old school and show little understanding for their employees and their needs.
"I could employ my own psychologist in my company"
One example is the cell phone, which young people no longer want to let go of. Mental health problems, which have increased significantly since coronavirus, also play a major role. These lead to more frequent sick leave. "I could employ my own psychologist in my company," says Swantje Meyer-Lange, Chairwoman of "arbeit plus".
But there are not only negative things to report from the job market: Caritas' 22 counseling and employment projects were able to place 1387 people in jobs last year. Ambros L. is one of them: "I finished school during the pandemic and then it was difficult to find something."
He found a job in accounting through Caritas. Matthias Cosma's story is similar. "I didn't know what I wanted to do after school. Now I've found my dream job." As a hobby angler, he works in fish farming.
I didn't know what to do after the army. I wanted to get out into nature and am a hobby angler. Now I work in fish farming.
Matthias Csoma
I worked all my life until I lost my job six years ago. I'm having a hard time because of my age, but now I'm starting as a cleaner.

I'm still struggling with the language, but I'm here to look for a job where I can improve my German. I would like to become a car mechanic.
