Successor to Mitter
Mikaela Shiffrin gets a new coach
Mikaela Shiffrin is getting a new coach! Janne Haarala, who most recently accompanied the Norwegian women's skiers for six years, will be joining the exceptional athlete's team as assistant coach next season.
Haarala succeeds the Austrian and ex-Hirscher coach Mark Mitter, who stepped down at the beginning of April. "I am delighted to be working with the most successful alpine ski racer in the world," said Haarala in a statement from the US ski team. "I will work hard and share my experience and passion for alpine skiing with the team."
Several changes of coach
The US Ski Association also announced several other coaching changes and is fundamentally reorganizing itself. In future, Mark Tilston will be head coach of the men's team and Paul Kristofic will be head coach of the women's team. Dave Ryding's former coach Tristan Glasse-Davies will take over the men's technical team. Rudi Soulard will be promoted from assistant coach to head coach of the women's technical team.
Shiffrin won her eighth slalom crystal globe last season despite a six-week injury break and celebrated a total of nine World Cup victories.
