Displeasure after Cup success
“Mauer’s behavior was not very respectful”
Helfort's 8:0 win over Mauer in the Vienna State Football Cup caused displeasure. Because the defeated leaders of the city league played against the first runner-up almost exclusively with young players. "Disrespectful", says the victorious coach.
If you're second in the Vienna City League and beat the leaders 8:0 in the regional cup semi-final, you could actually be completely satisfied. However, Helfort coach Stefan Coric is not after the clear victory over Union Mauer on Tuesday and a place in the cup final. "It wasn't very respectful what Mauer did there. Not even towards their own young players," he complained about the fact that their opponents - as in the previous rounds of the cup competition - were without a whole host of regular players and sent many U18 players onto the pitch.
Leading players such as Frank, Ivic, Ilic and Elbl were missing. "Our focus this season is clearly on the championship title, not the cup," said Mauer coach Christoph Knirsch. Who was also absent himself, but was represented by assistant coach Ümit Duman.
"I understand that Mauer absolutely has to become champions this year. They have invested a lot in recent years. But there are other ways to do it," Coric shakes his head. Whose team will now face Donau in the final on May 8.
