Südwiener Hütte gets another reprieve

The popular mountain hut is threatened with definitive closure - even if there is another postponement. What is certain, however, is that the long-standing tenants will be stepping down in the fall.

The Südwiener Hütte in Untertauern is a popular excursion destination in both summer and winter. The peaks around the hut attract hikers, ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. Tenant couple Tanja and Robert Scharler know how to delight visitors with their culinary delights. However, the alpine base could soon be history.

There is an urgent need to invest in the hut itself. Disputes between the Alpine Association and the Almgenossenschaft about the future rent are still unresolved. The hut was actually already closed in April. Now it will be open one last time from June to September.

Robert and Tanja Scharler spent eight years at the hut. "We've made regular guests and friends up here. In the fall, it's time for something new for us too," explains Robert Scharler, who still runs the hut.
