Blows to the face
Operation: Man beats up woman in Vienna streetcar
A shock for passengers on a Vienna streetcar on Tuesday evening: a stranger is said to have punched a woman in the face several times on streetcar line 5. Numerous passers-by are said to have immediately shown civil courage and intervened. The suspect is on the run.
"The woman was slightly injured", police spokesman Mattias Schuster told the "Krone" on Wednesday. The attack happened at around 7.25 pm in front of Burggasse station. The woman suffered several blows to the face during the attack. Why? That is still under investigation.
Passengers showed civil courage
The perpetrator fled after the incident and is now being sought. In an interview with the "Krone" newspaper, a concerned passer-by was impressed by the civil courage of the passengers: "Nobody looked away, everyone helped the poor woman." The incident was noticed due to loud screams in the rear compartment of the streetcar. "Everyone was panicking, we didn't know what was going on at first," says the 25-year-old.
