NFL mourns the death of quarterback legend Roman Gabriel

The NFL mourns the loss of Roman Gabriel. The former quarterback of the world's strongest football league passed away on Saturday at the age of 83.

Gabriel's son confirmed that the former Rams and Eagles player died peacefully at his home of natural causes. 

In 1962, Gabriel was drafted second overall by the Los Angeles Rams, for whom he played quarterback for ten years. In 1973, the playmaker moved to the Philadelphia Eagles before ending his active career four years later and passing the time as a commentator, actor and coach for the Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks in the World League of American Football. 

During his career, Gabriel was selected to the NFL Pro Bowl team a total of four times and was named best player of the year in 1969.
