Two seriously injured after accident on country road
Two people were seriously injured in a traffic accident in the district of Baden (Lower Austria) on Tuesday morning. A car crashed into an articulated lorry for as yet unexplained reasons.
Shortly after 8 a.m., a serious traffic accident occurred on the wet carriageway of the L157 between Tattendorf and Pottendorf. A car driver from the district of Baden was driving in the direction of Pottendorf, a Hungarian articulated lorry was driving in the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided for unknown reasons before the Piesting bridge on the outskirts of Tattendorf.
The car, which was carrying two women (61, 64), crashed into the side of the truck between the tractor unit and the trailer. The vehicle was thrown against the crash barrier in the crash and came to a standstill in the oncoming lane.
Two seriously injured in hospital
Firefighters from the Tattendorf, Pottendorf and Oberwaltersdorf fire departments rushed to the scene of the accident, and the Christophorus 3 rescue helicopter and several ambulances were also deployed. The 61-year-old female driver was trapped in the car and had to be freed by the Florianis. She was flown to hospital in Eisenstadt by rescue helicopter. The passenger, who was also seriously injured, was transported to the hospital in Baden by the Samaritans. The truck driver did not suffer any injuries.
The exact cause of the accident is still being investigated. The car had to be recovered by the Tattendorf fire department using a crane. The L157 was closed for almost two hours.
