Wheelchair finally approved: “A huge relief”

For months, Melanie Wagner had to collect donations for her son so that urgently needed equipment could be purchased. Thanks in part to the "Krone", the big goal was achieved.

A special car seat, a buggy, a new wheelchair and possibly even a used car that would fit everything. It seemed like a hopeless situation for Melanie Wagner (33) and her son Konstantin from Ebreichsdorf in the district of Baden. Because the nine-year-old is dependent on them.

"Krone readers know his story of suffering: the umbilical cord had wrapped around his neck twice at birth, Down's syndrome, spinal deformity and cataracts in both eyes.

In total, however, the items cost a five-figure sum. Too much for the mother, who has to look after her son around the clock and set up her own small felt-making business out of necessity. She therefore launched an appeal for donations at the beginning of February. After the "Krone" newspaper reported on it, things really took off.

Now that we have received so much help, I want to use the raffle to help others too.

So much money has now been raised that the car seat, buggy and used car are largely financed. And that's not all: on request, the health insurance company reviewed the case again. The wheelchair, which was not part of the appeal for donations, will now also be paid for in full and a subsidy will be granted for the car seat.

Wagner is so grateful that she will be holding a summer market and raffle behind the town hall in Ebreichsdorf on June 22 from 9 am to 6 pm, with the net proceeds going to the town's social welfare fund.
