Explosion during heating: man seriously injured

A man was seriously injured in an explosion in the Weinviertel region on Sunday morning. A deflagration may have occurred while he was heating the stove, but he was able to prevent a fire himself. The investigation is ongoing. 

A loud bang woke local residents from their sleep at around 9 o'clock on Sunday morning in Leopoldsdorf im Marchfelde in the district of Gänserndorf. A deflagration is believed to have occurred in a detached house during heating, causing smoke gases to ignite. One man was seriously injured. 

Flown to hospital with burns
The resident suffered burns to his upper body and face, but was able to call the emergency services himself. The seriously injured man also managed to close the fireplace door, preventing a fire. The man was flown to Vienna General Hospital by emergency helicopter. Investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing.
