For 14 days, one hundred tons of hazardous goods were left unguarded in a parking lot at the Suben border crossing. Police officers now discovered the "rolling bombs", which contained gases for refrigerants banned in Germany.

During the course of the day on April 5, two Turks transferred five semi-trailers from the "Rolling Highway" in Wels to the parking lot at the Suben border crossing using two articulated lorries. Each of the five semi-trailers carried more than 20 tons of class 2 hazardous goods (gases). These dangerous goods transports were not recognizable as such either during the journeys from Wels to Suben or at the Suben parking lot.

No appropriate labeling
None of the transports were marked accordingly, nor were the corresponding accompanying documents carried. The necessary protective equipment was also extremely inadequate.

Banned in Germany
On Thursday, April 19, 2024 at around 2.30 p.m., the five semi-trailers with the two towing vehicles were noticed by the hazardous goods patrol of the Ried freeway police station at the Suben parking lot. Further investigations revealed that these five semi-trailers had previously been banned from entering Germany, as these gases would be refrigerants prohibited in Germany.

Loaded in Turkey
The semi-trailers were loaded in Turkey. The place of unloading would have been in Germany. Thus, from 5 to 19 April 2024, over 100 tons of dangerous goods (gases) were parked in five semi-trailers at the Suben parking lot without this dangerous cargo being visible from the outside.
