Second League
Ried eight points behind GAK after 2:0 in Horn
SV Ried have moved to within eight points of league leaders GAK in the 2nd Football League, at least until Sunday. The team from the Innviertel region won 2-0 at SV Horn on Friday evening to open the 24th round and secure their third win in a row. Three points behind them in third place are DSV Leoben after a 2-1 defeat at home to FC Liefering, for whom interim coach Daniel Beichler enjoyed a successful debut.
Two goals proved decisive in the Waldviertel. Philipp Pomer (22') shot from the edge of the box and was successful with a volley. It was the 26-year-old midfielder's second goal of the season. Fabian Rossdorfer (86) made everything clear in the closing stages, scoring just ten minutes after coming on as a substitute. It was the second defeat in a row for Horn.
Things are also not going well for Leoben, who have only won one of their last five games. However, they could have done better against Liefering. Kevin Friesenbichler failed to score on his way to taking the lead with a poorly taken penalty from "Jungbullen" goalkeeper Jonas Krumrey (57'). Just a short time later, Justin Omoregie (63), who had just come on as a substitute, scored the winner. Adam Daghim (86') added another substitute before the home side managed to make amends through Thomas Hirschhofer (88'). It was win number four in a row for seventh-placed Liefering.
FC Admira, one point behind Leoben in fifth place, were also successful. The Südstädter, unbeaten in six rounds, held on for a 1-0 win against Kapfenberger SV thanks to a late goal from Patrick Schmidt (90'). FAC returned to winning ways after three games with a total of just one point. Floridsdorfer moved up to fourth place with a 2-0 away win at Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz. Nermin Haljeta (34) and own goal scorer Patrick Obermuller (88) scored.
Schwarz-Weiß (11th) suffered their fourth defeat in the last five games. A new coach will now take over for the final six rounds with Regi van Acker, who was introduced on Thursday. Sixth-placed Vienna won 2-0 against SV Lafnitz thanks to goals from Noah Bischof (10'), who benefited from a blunder by the goalkeeper, and Christoph Monschein (33').
Sturm Graz's second team secured an important victory in the relegation battle with a 4-1 win at bottom-placed SKU Amstetten. The penultimate team, for whom Leon Grgic scored twice, moved to within two points of third-but-last Dornbirn for the time being. Leaders GAK are not in action until Sunday at home against SKN St. Pölten at the end of the round.
