Serious forestry accident

Buried under a tree trunk during logging work

A 55-year-old local man suffered serious injuries in a forestry accident in Serfaus on Thursday afternoon. He was flown to Zams hospital.

The accident occurred at around 2.50 pm during logging work in a forest area of Serfaus, the so-called "Beutelboden" at an altitude of around 1600 meters. A 55-year-old contractor from a timber and transport company was carrying out the logging work. The local man was assisted by his 32-year-old son, who was operating the cable winch on the parked tractor.

 Mountain rescue rescued victim
While attempting to pull a tree trunk attached to a rope up the embankment below a forest path, the trunk toppled over a hilltop and buried the 55-year-old. He was trapped under the tree trunk and suffered serious injuries to his chest. The son made an emergency call and the Fiss mountain rescue team rescued the accident victim. The emergency helicopter flew the victim to hospital in Zams.
