Chemical leak at school in Kirchberg/Raab

A chemical leak occurred at a school in Kirchberg an der Raab in the Feldbach district on Thursday. A teacher had to be taken to hospital.

The chemical leak occurred during chemistry lessons at the secondary school in Kirchberg an der Raab on Thursday. During the so-called "chalk foam experiment", the chemistry teacher probably mixed up hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid. As a result, he felt a scratchy throat during the experiment and immediately began to evacuate the children from the class.

A first responder from the Red Cross was quickly on site and began providing first aid. The teacher was taken to hospital for further treatment. Two of the 15 pupils also subsequently reported dizziness and nausea and were taken to the children's hospital in Graz for a check-up.
