Next prisoner (23) escapes from prison

The next mishap occurred in Lower Austria on Tuesday morning. This time a prisoner escaped from Korneuburg prison. There has been no trace of him since.

"A manhunt has so far been unsuccessful", confirmed police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner on Wednesday on request. It is not yet known how the prisoner managed to break out and escape unnoticed.

Not considered dangerous
The inmate is a 23-year-old Austrian citizen and is reportedly not considered dangerous. The inmate has been held as a prisoner since September 2023, according to the Ministry of Justice.

"No risk of escape"
The prisoner had completed "a large number of prison relaxations associated with freedom without incident", the ministry said in response to an inquiry. "Even in view of the short remaining sentence of only three months to be served, there was no risk of escape," it was emphasized. Prison guards had immediately followed the prisoner.
