New phishing attacks
Warning! Fraudsters send out “yellow slips”
The Styrian police are warning of a new form of fraud. Unknown perpetrators are depositing or sending postal notifications, also known as "yellow slips". The victims are redirected to a fake website via the QR codes listed on the notifications.
Currently, unknown perpetrators are sending or depositing so-called postal notifications. In these notifications, the perpetrators state that the "deposited" document is an "expired registration form". A QR code is displayed on these notifications. By scanning the QR code, potential victims are directed to a fake website. This website is supposed to be Austria's central registration register (ZMR).
Victims are then asked to enter their personal data on this fake website.
This is another form of so-called phishing. Phishing is an attempt to obtain personal data via the Internet. Via e-mails, text messages, QR codes and fraudulent websites, attempts are made to obtain personal data or information such as credit card numbers, passwords, account details and the like.
