Red Lotus Festival celebrates the film world of Asia!

The Red Lotus - Asian Film Festival Vienna brings popular cinema from Asia to Vienna for all lovers of Asian film and those who want to become one. With 14 feature and documentary films, the festival promises to celebrate Asian cinema once again this year from April 25 to 28.

Now in its third year, the festival will once again present a hand-picked selection of current, daring and successful Asian films. In addition, an "outstanding personality of Asian cinema" will be honored with the festival's Lifetime Achievement Award, the organizers announce.

The film highlights include productions from China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia. For example, "Night Courier" is the absolute surprise hit at the Saudi Arabian box office: a contemporary film noir set in a Riyadh that is literally shrouded in eternal night. The film attracted more than 600,000 viewers to cinemas in Saudi Arabia at the start of 2024 and broke every box office record as an indie thriller.

Another highlight this year is the feature film "All shall be well", which received five nominations for the Golden Horse Award and nine nominations for the Hong Kong Film Award, including two for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, and opened the Hong Kong International Film Festival at the end of March.

Red Lotus sees itself as a showcase for Asian cinema, but aims not only to entertain, but also to be "a hub for communication with and between the numerous Asian communities in Vienna and beyond".
