Environmental emergency: Tanker stranded in the Gulf of Aqaba

Egypt declared an environmental emergency in parts of the Gulf of Aqaba on Sunday as a precautionary measure due to a stranded tanker. This was announced by the head of the environmental authority, Ali Abu Senna.

A Liberian-flagged natural gas tanker ran aground in the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea on Friday. It was towed away and is to be brought to the port of Sharm el-Sheikh. It was reported that the tanker had engine damage and was not loaded.

In addition to Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia are located on the Gulf of Aqaba.
