Salzburg reactions
ÖVP continues its series of defeats on the Inn
The Innsbruck city elections also caused very different reactions in the Salzburg parties. The Greens were able to rejoice despite their losses. Georg Willi still has a chance of defending his seat as mayor after reaching the run-off. What happened to the ÖVP in Salzburg only in small rural communities happened to them in Tyrol in the provincial capital: they were swept aside by a list of names. Johannes Anzengruber made it to the run-off, while former state secretary Florian Tursky suffered a resounding defeat.
Salzburg's future mayor Bernhard Auinger was at least able to rejoice a little. The SPÖ made a small gain in the Tyrolean capital. As in Salzburg, Innsbruck also showed that the FPÖ's trees do not grow into the sky by themselves. Paul Dürnberger missed out on entering the city government in Salzburg, while in Innsbruck the blue party had high hopes of making it to the run-off. That did not happen either.
On the other hand, Salzburg's prospective city councillor Kay-Michael Dankl was also able to rejoice on election night. His KPÖ Plus made it into the municipal council on the Inn - despite the four percent hurdle. "They have taken up the everyday concerns of many Innsbruck residents. The key issue in Innsbruck is also the expensive cost of housing," comments Dankl.
