Gurgiser warns politicians
Transit: “Fighting causes, not symptoms”
Transit Forum Chairman Fritz Gurgiser calls on politicians to focus more on the causes of the transit problem and not get lost in repeating the same points of view.
"Transit ranting!" Fritz Gurgiser from Transitforum Austria-Tyrol uses this phrase to warn politicians not to lose sight of the actual problem of transit. We should not be distracted by politicians repeating their positions "while the avalanche of trucks rolls through the heart of the Alps at three-second intervals, unscathed and supported by the fundamental fallacy of the free movement of goods from Rosenheim to Verona".
If you want to solve a problem, you have to tackle the causes and not the symptoms.
Fritz Gurgiser
Actual problems not addressed
Trucks could thunder over the Brenner Pass so undisturbed because the main causes were no longer being addressed: The "Munich-Verona corridor toll" is much cheaper at 35 cents per truck kilometer compared to other routes. According to Gurgiser, nobody talks about the detour transit of around one million transit trucks, the exploitation of truck drivers or the revision of the IG-Luft, which is long overdue.
In conclusion, Gurgiser warns: "If you want to solve a problem, you have to tackle the causes and not the symptoms."
