Helmut Marko:
“We are not involved in these games”
The transfer rumor mill in Formula 1 is boiling as never before. The departure of Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez from Red Bull is also on the table. "We are not taking part in these games," said Helmut Marko.
In his column on "speedweek.com", the Red Bull Zampano reviews the weekend in Suzuka (JAP). And praises one driver in particular. "The overtaking maneuvers by Yuki (Tsunoda, note) were the show of the day. The fans were completely over the moon. His weekend was on a par with Max, Alonso and co. Faultless, a super performance under the pressure of his home race." Tsunoda finished tenth in Suzuka and secured another important championship point for his team.
Marko was also delighted with Perez, who finished second behind team-mate Verstappen. "He is definitely having his best season with us so far."
According to Marko, the fact that the transfer rumor mill really picked up speed at the end of March and beginning of April is due to several factors. On the one hand, Hamilton's move to Ferrari in 2025 was announced early, while on the other hand Audi, who will enter Formula 1 from 2026, are apparently pushing for a decision with regard to signing Carlos Sainz.
Timetable for personnel decision
And at Red Bull, there are currently rumblings that Verstappen may no longer be in the mood for the unrest in the team and the Horner case; he is being linked with a move to Aston Martin or Mercedes. However, Marko waves it off: "We are not involved in these games." We will "only hear from Red Bull Racing towards the middle of the season how things are going in terms of personnel."
The next Formula 1 race will be held in China on April 21.
