Provincial electricity discount extended

Every electricity customer in Vorarlberg will continue to receive a discount of 3 cents per kilowatt hour. Governor Markus Walllner wants to maintain the measure, as inflation has not yet been resolved.  

In the end, there was only criticism from the NEOS; the Pinken were the only party in the state parliament not to agree to an extension of the state electricity cost subsidy law. NEOS energy spokesman Garry Thür was not entirely unjustified in his outrage at the watering can principle, according to which the approximately 17 million euros are distributed to all private electricity customers.

No incentive to save electricity
Until March 2025, they will receive a discount of 3 cents per kilowatt hour regardless of their income, consumption or supplier. "There is no incentive to save electricity. Money is being spent here as if there were no tomorrow," raged Thür.

Governor Markus Wallner defended the decision, saying that the issue of inflation had not yet been resolved. "The fact that inflation is falling is mainly due to falling energy prices. We don't want to increase them by abolishing the discount." The point at which the electricity discount could be abolished has not yet been reached.
